31:09Now PlayingSen. Mike Lee, R-Utah, questioned Judge Amy Coney Barrett on the second day of the committee’s Supreme Court confirmation hearing. Lee asked Barrett whether a lawmaker’s intent would factor into her interpretation of a particular law; Barrett responded that it’s the text of the law that matters. “The law is what the people understand it to be, not what goes on in any individual legislator’s mind,” Barrett said. The Oct. 13 hearing came about three weeks before the 2020 presidential election. The second of four days of scheduled testimony gave senators an opportunity to ask Barrett about her record and approach to the law.
