20:37Now PlayingSen. Patrick Leahy, D-Vt., questioned Judge Amy Coney Barrett on Oct. 14, the third day of the Senate Judiciary Committee’s Supreme Court confirmation hearing. Leahy asked Barrett about her criticism of an opinion by Chief Justice John Roberts that upheld tenets of the Affordable Care Act. Barrett said that she made her critique of Roberts’ opinion as an academic, noting that professors make different considerations of the law in their writings than judges do when making a ruling. When Leahy asked Barrett whether she ever defended the ACA, Barrett stated that she hasn’t had the opportunity to do so. The hearing came about three weeks before Election Day. The third of four days of scheduled testimony gave senators another opportunity to ask Barrett about her record and approach to the law.
