Rep. Jamie Raskin, the lead House manager in the Senate impeachment trial of former President Donald Trump, on Tuesday presented a video of the events that took place on Jan. 6, the day a violent mob of Trump supporters stormed the U.S. Capitol.
The video included a clip of Trump's speech just before the insurrection, during which he repeated unsubstantiated and disproven claims about the 2020 presidential election results and encouraged his supporters to "stop the steal."
The presentation also showed statements from congressional Republicans who argued against counting some of the electoral votes cast for President Joe Biden.
The Senate is holding an impeachment trial to examine Trump’s culpability in the attack, and on Tuesday is debating the constitutionality of proceeding.
