1:31Now PlayingRep. David Cicilline, D-R.I., one of nine House impeachment managers, argued on Tuesday that “there cannot be unity without accountability” for former President Donald Trump, who is charged with inciting the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol by a mob of his supporters.
“I really do not believe that our attention span is so short, that our sense of duty so frail, our factional loyalties so all consuming, that the president can provoke an attack on Congress itself and get away with it just because it occurred near the end of his term,” Cicilline said.
The Senate is holding an impeachment trial to examine Trump’s culpability in the attack. Many Republicans have said the trial should not go forward because Trump is no longer in office, an argument that is a key piece of Trump's defense, but Democrats are arguing to proceed.
