Rep. Ted Lieu, D-Calif., spoke Feb. 10 as House impeachment managers made their case for why the Senate should convict former President Donald Trump on a charge of inciting insurrection for the attack on the U.S. Capitol. Trump was impeached by the House in January, while he was still in office.
Lieu cited Trump’s public and private reported statements regarding then-Vice President Mike Pence as evidence that the he was willing to “do anything and pressure anyone” in his attempt to “overturn” the results of the 2020 presidential election. He also pointed to rhetoric used by some Trump supporters who stormed the Capitol on Jan. 6 and called for violence against Pence.
“Even after he was personally targeted, even after his family was targeted, Vice President Pence stood strong and certified the election,” Lieu said.
