4:32Now PlayingRep. Jamie Raskin, D-Md., spoke Feb. 13 as House impeachment managers and former President Donald Trump’s defense team offered their final cases in Trump’s second impeachment trial. The Senate will vote on whether to convict Trump on a charge of inciting an insurrection for his role in the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol. Trump was impeached by the House in January, while he was still in office.
Raskin said the House managers have proven that Trump’s conduct prior to the insurrection makes him culpable for inciting it, but if anyone has doubts they should look at Trump’s reaction to the violence. He said Trump clearly did not “spring into action” and even “delighted” in the violence the insurrectionists committed in his honor.
Trump was “nowhere to be found” while the Capitol was under attack, Raskin said. He added, “That desertion of duty was central to his incitement of insurrection and inextricable from it.”
