9:53Now PlayingSen. Patrick Leahy, D-Vt., argued in favor of Ketanji Brown Jackson’s nomination to the Supreme Court in opening statements for her confirmation hearings, which began March 21.
“Let’s make a few things clear: Judge Jackson is no judicial activist. She is not a puppet of the so-called radical left. She has been praised by Republican-appointed judges for her jurisprudence. Lawyers from the right and the left who have appeared before her in court have called her judicious and even-handed,” Leahy said.
Jackson was nominated by President Joe Biden in February to replace retiring Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer. If confirmed, she will be the first Black woman on the high court.
