31:51Now PlayingSen. Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., questioned Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson as the Senate Judiciary Committee continued its Supreme Court confirmation hearings March 22. Blumenthal praised Jackson for her historic nomination, and asked about how she works on consensus building as well as her views on court transparency. He also asked for more information on the sentencing she handed down in child pornography cases, which has been a repeated topic of questioning throughout the confirmation hearings this week.
“I had 14 cases that involved either child pornography, interstate travel to meet up with a child for sex, sex crimes related to children and in 10 of those 14 cases, I imposed a sentence that was consistent with or greater than either what … the government or the probation office [asked for],” Jackson said.
Jackson was nominated by President Joe Biden in February to replace retiring Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer. If confirmed, she will be the first Black woman on the high court. After opening statements from Jackson, her colleagues and the senators March 21, senators will spend two days questioning Jackson at length about her rulings and judicial philosophy. On the final day of the hearings March 24, the Senate Judiciary Committee will hear from friends and colleagues of Jackson about her temperament and approach to the law.
