6:41Now PlayingHouse Oversight Committee Chair James Comer criticized the U.S. Secret Service as the “face of incompetence” as more details have come to light about a gunman’s attempt to assassinate former President Donald Trump during a campaign rally.
Comer noted that the gunman got within 500 feet of the podium where Trump was delivering a speech to supporters in Butler, Pennsylvania. While Comer thanked individual agents for their bravery, he said the agency’s top leadership failed to prevent the assassination attempt.
“This is unacceptable, and we’re concerned the Secret Service lacks the proper management to keep protectees safe from bad actors,” the chair said.
Secret Service Kimberly Cheatle appeared before a House panel Monday to answer questions about the July 13 attempted assassination of Trump.
