6:34Now PlayingSecret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle took “full responsibility” for security lapses that occurred at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, where former President Donald Trump was wounded in an assassination attempt.
“I take full responsibility for any security lapse of our agency. We are fully cooperating with ongoing investigations. We must learn what happened and I will move heaven and earth to ensure that an incident like July 13th does not happen again,” Cheatle told the House Oversight Committee on Monday.
The July 13 attack killed one attendee and two others were wounded. Cheatle acknowledged the attack was a “significant operation failure.”
Cheatle and the Secret Service have come under heavy criticism for their operations on that day and faced questions about how a gunman got close enough to attack a former president and presidential candidate.
