1:12Now PlayingTaylor Swift’s sold out Vienna concerts set this week were canceled after officials confirmed an alleged, foiled a terror plot targeting the Ernst Happel Stadium where the superstar singer was meant to perform. Two suspects have been arrested and a third questioned by police.
The main 19-year-old suspect, an Austrian with North Macedonian roots, confessed to planning the suicide attack. Inside his home, investigators found chemicals, explosives, ISIS propaganda material, counterfeit money, machetes and knives and other materials. Officials said he also uploaded an oath of allegiance to the Islamic State group militia a few weeks ago.
According Austria’s intelligence agency, both he and the 17-year-old suspect had been radicalized by Islamic State. Each of Swift’s shows was estimated to bring around 65,000 audience members and a boom to the local economy. The concerts’ promoters have promised all tickets will be refunded but the cancellation has left fans devastated.
