2:26Now PlayingAs a parent, concerns over what your child is exposed to don't include drag shows, Wisconsin voter Danielle Scampini Linn tells PBS News' Judy Woodruff.
"What's scary is the idea that I think every single day when I drop my kids at school: 'Will I see them come home or will someone come into the school and shoot them?'" she said.
Linn, a Democrat, spoke to Woodruff during a town hall in Milwaukee. More than 50 Wisconsin residents from across the political spectrum met for a frank discussion about the challenges we face as a country.
She said the rhetoric on right-wing media is making issues like Drag Queen Story Hour "seem scary" and is causing parents and voters to lose focus on the things that will actually keep kids safe.
"When I put my kids to bed at night, I'm not afraid of Drag Queen Story Hour. I'm afraid of what's actually going to happen to them," she said. "I'm afraid of what the planet will look like in the next 20 years because we're not taking care of it."
The town hall, “Crossroads: A Conversation with America,” comes after Woodruff and her team traveled the United States for about two years, asking Americans what divides and unites them.
