WATCH: Medicaid and Medicare nominee Mehmet Oz won’t say he’ll oppose cuts to services

Dr. Mehmet Oz did not directly answer a question from Sen. Ron Wyden, D-Ore., about whether he would oppose cuts to Medicaid.

Trump's pick to lead the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services said during his confirmation hearing before the Senate Finance Committee that he cherished Medicaid. He did not answer yes or no on whether he would take a stand against cutting the government health program.

A House GOP budget plan calls for the House Committee on Energy and Commerce to cut $880 billion from programs under its purview, and Medicaid, though not mentioned by name in the bill, is likely to be a target. About one in five Americans use Medicaid.

Oz, Trump’s pick for CMS head, is a cardiothoracic surgeon, author and former host TV host. He has come under fire in the past for promoting unproven supplements and weight-loss treatments.
