2:30Now PlayingSens. Ron Wyden, D-Ore., and James Lankford, R-Okla., weighed in Friday on different sides of a debate about nursing home staffing requirements during a confirmation hearing for Dr. Mehmet Oz.
Wyden advocated for a Biden-era rule that requires a registered nurse is available on-site around the clock, while Lankford cited a shortage of nurses and said the rule would force rural nursing homes all over the country to close.
"I appreciate the arguments that are being waged. They're thoughtful ones that deserve more attention and it'll be one of the earlier things I focus on," said Oz, President Donald Trump's pick to lead the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
Oz is a cardiothoracic surgeon, author and former host TV host. He has come under fire in the past for promoting unproven supplements and weight loss treatments.
