6:09Now PlayingRep. Daniel Issa, R-CA, made his opening statement on Tuesday at a House Judiciary Committee hearing on judicial overreach and accusations by Republicans that some judges are improperly blocking President Donald Trump’s policies.
Issa said that lower court judges should not have the power to stop Trump policies and this should be reserved for the Supreme Court.
“The federal judiciary isn’t interpreting the law, it is impeding the presidency,” Issa said.
Judges are considering themselves to be the Supreme Court and "the president of the United States. This demands that we make a change and make it quickly.”
Trump has issued a host of policies and executive orders in a bid to reduce the size of government and change the implementation of domestic policy, including immigration law. Critics haves said these moves disregard the law, and Trump has been met with lawsuits, some of which have resulted in rulings by judges which have ordered the policies paused, or rolled back.
Issa has proposed a bill limiting the geographic reach of lower court orders, preventing them from taking effect nationwide.
