2:32Now PlayingPresident Donald Trump revived his call Monday to resettle Palestinians living in Gaza and redevelop the area into what he called a ‘freedom zone.”
“If you take the people, the Palestinians, and move them around to different countries -- and you have plenty of countries that will do that -- and you really have a freedom, a freedom zone ... where people aren't going to be killed every day,” Trump told reporters at the White House during a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Trump said the United States could control Gaza and redevelop the “oceanfront property.”
“Having a peace force like the United States there controlling and owning the Gaza Strip would be a good thing because right now, all it is for years and years, all I hear about is killing and Hamas and problems,” Trump said.
Netanyahu’s April visit was his second to the White House since Trump returned to power. During the prime minister’s February visit, Trump made a surprise proposal for the U.S. to take over Gaza and resettle the more than 2 million Palestinians living there , an idea that drew pushback from neighboring nations, the UN and human rights organizations. In the days that followed, White House officials suggested such a relocation would be temporary.
