as posted by the channelWhite House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said Tuesday that the president “stands strongly” behind Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and his work at the Pentagon.
Leavitt’s statement comes amid recent reporting about Hegseth’s use of the commercial Signal app again while discussing operational details of military action in Yemen.
Additionally, on Friday, at least three Pentagon staffers – members of Hegseth’s inner circle – were fired following an investigation into information leaks. Another former Pentagon staff member – John Ullyot, who had been Hegseth’s top spokesperson – wrote in recent days that “the Pentagon focus is no longer on warfighting, but on endless drama.”
“The secretary of defense is doing a tremendous job, and he is bringing monumental change to the Pentagon,” Leavitt told reporters in the White House briefing room. “There's a lot of people in this city who reject monumental change, and I think, frankly, that's why we've seen a smear campaign against the secretary of defense since the moment that President Trump announced his nomination before the United States Senate.”
