0:56Now PlayingThe "mission of DOGE" will continue after billionaire Elon Musk's departure, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said on Thursday.
Musk announced Wednesday he was leaving his role as a special employee of the White House. During his time leading DOGE, the SpaceX CEO urged cuts to federal agencies and spending. Leavitt said Cabinet secretaries will work with employees of DOGE who have been made appointees at government agencies.
"The entire Cabinet understands the need to cut government waste fraud and abuse, and each Cabinet secretary at their respective agencies is committed to that," Leavitt added.
Leavitt did not indicate whether anyone else would be tapped for Musk's role, saying Trump and his Cabinet are all leaders "wholeheartedly committed to cutting waste fraud and abuse from our government."
