3:01Now PlayingPresident Donald Trump celebrated the ceasefire between Hamas and Israel at a summit for Gaza on Monday.
"Together we've achieved what everybody said was impossible,” he said. “At long last we have peace in the Middle East."
"After years of suffering and bloodshed, the war in Gaza is over," the president added.
Trump delivered his remarks while attending the summit held in the Egyptian resort town of Sharm el-Sheikh. Several world leaders gathered for the summit in an effort to support the ceasefire in Gaza and develop plans for next steps, such as creating a post-war government for Gaza.
Israel's war in Gaza has left much of the territory devastated with urban areas razed and, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry, at least 67,000 Palestinians were killed. Trump predicted that the rebuilding of Gaza would be "the easiest part."
"It’s in one sense, it's so horrible that it could have taken place, but in another sense, it's so beautiful to see a new and beautiful day is rising,” he said. “And now, the rebuilding begins.”
“I think we've done a lot of the hardest part because the rest comes together,” he added.
