as posted by the channelWhite House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said Tuesday that the administration is "fully complying" with a court order to distribute partial SNAP benefits for November.
"I just spoke to the president about it. The recipients of the SNAP benefits need to understand it's going to take some time to receive this money because the Democrats have forced the administration into a very untenable position," Leavitt said.
After letting SNAP benefits lapse for the first time in U.S. history because of the federal government shutdown, the administration said Monday it would dip into a contingency fund to distribute half of the around $8 billion states use monthly to fund SNAP.
Earlier Tuesday, President Donald Trump said his administration would not distribute benefits until the government reopened, but Leavitt said he meant that he didn't want to use the contingency funds "in the future."
Democrats have said they won't vote to fund the government unless Republicans agree to extend tax breaks subsidizing premiums for eligible Affordable Care Act recipients. Republicans have said they're willing to negotiate but only after the government is funded and reopens.
