Leavitt was responding to a question by PBS News White House Correspondent Liz Landers, who asked about President Donald Trump's claims that mail-in ballots in California's election were under "very serious and legal" review. Landers pressed Leavitt on what evidence the administration had that this voting was "rigged," along with what authority the White House had to ban mail-in voting.
Leavitt claimed without evidence that California's universal mail-in ballot system fosters "blatant" fraud, including "fraudulent ballots" in "the names of other people." She said the administration was looking into executive action to ban such a system.
Trump has long blasted mail-in voting, blaming it for his loss in 2020 despite officials declaring that year's election the most secure in U.S. history. He has without evidence claimed it as a major source of voter fraud. Instances of voting fraud by mail-in ballot are rare.
