2:03Now PlayingSen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, questioned Secretary of State Marco Rubio in a hearing Tuesday held by the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations.
Cornyn stressed the importance of the Trump administration’s push to deny Iran a nuclear weapon, asking whether there was evidence that Iran “will agree to anything.”
Rudio said any U.S. deal with Iran would require “clearly verifiable steps.”
“Simply putting something on a piece of paper is not satisfactory,” he said. “You have to actually commit to doing it and then you have to actually do it.”
Rubio added that the problem with Iran isn’t that the nation wants nuclear energy.
“The problem with Iran is that everything they do is consistent with the activities of a nation that seeks to develop a nuclear weapons capability,” he said.
Rubio faced back-to-back hearings before Senate and House committees on Tuesday, his first since the Iran war started at the end of February.
