1:41Now PlayingSen. Jacky Rosen, D-Nev., asked Secretary of State Marco Rubio how much money is in the fund for the Board of Peace, which is administered by the World Bank. President Donald Trump created the international body, which he said would oversee the Israel-Hamas ceasefire and reconstruction of Gaza.
In February, Trump said the United States would commit $10 billion toward establishing the board and that nine countries pledged a combined $7 billion toward Gaza.
“I don’t have the answer because there's no U.S. dollars that have flowed,” Rubio said. “These are donor funds.”
Rosen asked Rubio who has oversight over the Board of Peace funds.
“Ultimately the oversight over the funds of the Board of Peace will be done, and especially when it comes to U.S. dollars, will be done by you in Congress,” Rubio said. “We have not committed those funds there yet, although we've made a pledge until they've stood up the Board of Peace administratively.”
Rosen asked Rubio whether U.S. dollars in a J.P. Morgan account can be used to compensate Trump, his family or anyone connected to him.
“No one’s talking about doing that,” Rubio said.
Rubio added that the Board of Peace is being built as an international non-governmental organization.
Rubio faces back-to-back hearings before Senate and House committees on Tuesday, his first since the Iran war started at the end of February.
