"There's no indication that [the Tsarnaevs] had any association of any kind with designated terrorist organizations any contact with those organizations, no indication that radical political or religious beliefs in any motivated them to do what they did," Greenwald says. "It's possible that that's the case, but it's possible it didn't. The rush to declare this terrorism I think reflects the reality that all 'terrorism' really means politically, culturally, and even legally is it's a special category of crime committed by Muslims that result in a whole deprivation of all kinds of rights and protections."
