4:10Now PlayingDr. Scott Allen is under contract with the Department of Homeland Security to oversee the conditions at the border detention facilities, but he's speaking out against these child jails. He says many children are ill and more are vulnerable to getting sick. In addition to having poor access to adequate resources, these children are likely developing trauma from being held indefinitely, Allen says: "These are children who have often been traumatized already, and the harmful effects of trauma are cumulative over a lifetime, so they're a very vulnerable population of children."
