12:14Now PlayingSince the successful summit between United States President Donald Trump and Russian Federation President Vladimir Putin in Helsinki, Finland, there have been quite a few interesting responses. Social media and also the mainstream media, including conservative media, have been buzzing with disdain. A popular opinion has been that Trump “sided” with Russia and did not put America first as it relates to electioneering allegations from the Russian Federation.
These conclusions and allegations simply do not align with real life.
It seems like the average person commenting on the Helsinki summit in a negative way wanted Trump to be adversarial, rather than trying to promote peace on neutral ground. People wanted him to confront Putin over the election issues and also the annexation of Crimea from Ukraine. Which does not make any sense, especially since Trump ran his campaign with a core tenet of non-intervention. Why would Trump press Putin about Crimea? That’s not our business at this point. And we don’t really have a true argument to make since it was us that aided in the overthrow of Ukraine’s elected President during the Obama administration.
Accusations of Trump siding with Russia also don’t make sense because just a few days ago, he was in Brussels advocating for more cash to be given to NATO from underpaying countries. The core purpose of NATO is to defend European countries against Russia. Trump admonished German leadership for depending upon Russia for 60 to 70% of its energy needs while at the same time wanting to be protected against them via NATO.
Donald Trump’s behavior in Helsinki was categorized as “disgusting” by Fox News commentator Neil Cavuto. But why? What is “disgusting” about going to a neutral ground with the leader of a rival nation, a superpower, to promote peace and positivity? It seems like there is an ulterior motive behind the new red scare. What is the motive? Hard to tell.
