At some point during the 3.5 hours, Katie Porter asked him if he knew what an “REO” was. He asked if she said “oreo” then she went on to say what she was talking about.
A lot of mainstream media outlets took this moment to try and highlight Ben Carson as incompetent, but the reality is that he does know what the term means. He simply could not hear her clearly. As he later stated on Stuart Varney’s show, he has known what foreclosed properties and REOs were since he was a teenager since he grew up around many blighted homes in Detroit.
