11:44Now PlayingThe United States Military built a pier at Gaza with a $320 million budget. It suffered catastrophic failure just two weeks after it became functional. Repairs are estimated to take one week, but this could be prolonged or happen again. In addition to the early structural issues of the large pier, three US servicemen were hurt in the area. One of the injured men is in critical condition.
The purpose of the pier is to bring in humanitarian aid from Cyprus. This comes as Israel is facing pressure to open up land routes to the war-torn region. Just a few weeks ago, a humanitarian group called World Health Kitchen was bombed while trying to deliver goods to Gaza on land. Israel came out and said this was a mistake, while the organization's leader, Jose Andres, said it was nearly impossible for the strike to have been accidental.
