The ambassadors, wearing labeled red shirts, will be stationed throughout Downtown Atlanta from 5 p.m. until 4 or 5 a.m. every night during the tournament, providing directions, connecting people with city services and reporting safety concerns.
The program starts with 12 ambassadors, with more added if needed. Mayor Andre Dickens and Atlanta Police Chief Darin Schierbaum also outlined a full safety plan, with all 1,800 sworn officers and 500 civilian members involved in World Cup operations.
