1:39Now PlayingDeKalb County has approved its first-ever housing trust fund, committing $15 million per year toward creating or preserving 15,000 homes, the largest housing investment in the county's history.
The move comes as federal housing assistance declines and follows a 2023 study that found one in three DeKalb residents are struggling to afford housing. The fund will assist first-time homebuyers, seniors, legacy residents and those experiencing homelessness.
"We all need some help," said Terry Manuel, a recent college graduate on the waiting list for housing assistance.
