Former Dartmouth, Mass. police officer Shawn Souza was convicted by a Bristol County jury on October 2, 2024 of 2 counts aggravated r8pe of a child, one count of r8pe of a child by force & one count of indecent assault & battery of a person 14 or older. One child testified she was between 6-8 years old when the acts occurred, the other child testified she was 15. On October 3, 2024, Judge Susan Sullivan sentenced Souza to 10-15 years in prison plus 2 years probation. On December 18, 2024, Judge Sullivan overturned the jury verdict, granted Shawn Souza a new trial, and released him from prison. The shocking reasons set forth in her Decision were not argued by the Defense. Prepare to be outraged. This was Souza's 2nd trial; his first in 2022 ended in a hung jury.
