Film director Werner Herzog is shot and wounded by an air rifle whilst conducting an interview with film critic and broadcaster Mark Kermode.

"Far from the hazards of a South American jungle or the wilderness of Alaska, I met up with Werner Herzog in the suburban wilds of LA, which he currently calls home."

"We wanted to get a quick exterior shot of Herzog in his native habitat, when things took an unexpected turn."

"We quickly realised that some wacko had taken a pot-shot at us with an air rifle and Herzog had been hit."

"Doing an interview with Herzog wasn't meant to come with the dangers of making on of his films."
