10:16Now PlayingWith Scotland's qualification for Euro 2024 qualification secured, supporters can look forward to a second finals in four years after over 20 years in the international wilderness. But, over 45 years ago, Scotland's participation in a major tournament was a much more common event.
Qualification for the 1978 World Cup in Argentina was assured after beating Wales 0-2 at Anfield in October of 1977 and hopes were high that Scotland could at the very least progress from the group stage of the tournament.
When asked about his teams' chances, manager Ally MacLeod remarked that: "Without a doubt, it's the best squad that's left the British Isles yet."
What followed was a tale of hope, hubris, disappointment and ultimately redemption as Scotland produced a memorable tournament that has ultimately become part of national folklore.
This is a sideways look at the story of that campaign, told by archive footage from Blue Peter (who ran a competition to design the team's mascot) and the BBC News reports which followed the fans who travelled over 7,000 miles to support their team.
