Trevor Philpott reports on the uranium mining town of Mary Kathleen in the Cloncurry fields of north- western Queensland, Australia. After just 8 years of existence, the world determined that it had enough uranium for the time being - so the town has effectively been shut down, the inhabitants have left en masse, leaving a couple of dozen men to act as a caretaker team - mowing the grass, cleaning the pools, tending the gardens, keeping the town spick and span until the day the ore in Walton's Hill is needed once again.
