Leeds is prospering, so young people often have a little money in their pockets at the end of the week. Richard chats to the proprietors of a clothes shop and a record store about what the fashion-conscious, music mad Leeds teenagers spend their money on.
For residents who want a touch of elegance, there's the opportunity to go for a spot of dancing in the sophisticated surroundings of the Mecca Locarno Ballroom. When Friday night ends, the Locarno staff only have a few hours to clear the dancefloor, before the Saturday morning kids' disco.
If the kids' disco is a little raucous for your taste, there's the Bingo - favourite haunt of many a Leeds housewife while their husbands convene on Elland Road, to watch Leeds United, back in the First Division. If football isn't your thing, how about a trip to the Greyhound Stadium? Wherever you spend your Saturday, the night wouldn't be complete without a trip to one of Leeds' many working men's clubs. There is a little less choice for people who prefer the theatre to the club - but the oldest music hall in Leeds, the City Varieties Music Hall, and the Leeds Grand Theatre - are still going strong.
If money is no object, you could take yourself to Crockford's - a casino and nightclub - where Leeds' highest rollers gather to gamble, drink and dance the night away on its illuminated dancefloor.
Leeds has something for everyone.
