The Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation, the Chiang Rai provincial administration and partners will organize a running and cycling event to mark the first anniversary of the world-renowned rescue of young Wild Boars footballers and coach from the flooded Tham Luang cave in Chiang Rai province last year.
The Tham Luang Cave Day Bike and Run 2019 was set on June 23 that last year was the first day when 12 young footballers and their coach were trapped in the cave of the northernmost province.
The event was aimed at remembering the incident and the dedication of all people taking part in the rescue from June 23 to July 10, 2018, and raising a fund for the tourism-related development of the Tham Luang-Khun Nam Nang Nong Forest Park.
The event will comprise a 10-kilometer-long mini-marathon, a 6km fun run and cycling competitions on 54km and 24km routes.
The routes will pass locations related to the cave rescue including temples and Ban Jong community where rescuers stayed, a helipad area, the Ban Jong football field of the Moo Pa (Wild Boars) football club and the Emerald Pond in the forest park.
