She said Beijing fully understands and supports Hong Kong government's decision to formally withdraw the bill.
The Hong Kong leader focused on wanting to establish a dialogue with the public and "move forward," pledging herself and her officials will "walk into the community" for direct conversations with citizens.
She acknowledged there are deep-seated issues in Hong Kong that the government should study and address, ranging from housing, opportunities for youth to social justice.
Lam stood firm on not starting an independent investigation into police conduct and defended the police complaints council.
