2:54Now PlayingSome hundred people gathered for a vigil in London on Thursday, paying tribute to 39 migrants who were found dead in a refrigerated container truck near an English port a day earlier.
British police on Thursday confirmed that all 39 victims were Chinese citizens, 31 men and eight women.
As police continued to investigate one of Britain's deadliest cases of people smuggling, vigil attendees stressed that more must be done to ensure the safety of migrants and refugees.
"This is horrendous, but not surprising. Because I think this whole process with migrants and refugees, in relation to coming into Europe, is being repeated as a tragedy almost every day," said Michael Bradley.
"The hostile environment that exists politically for migrants and refugees, leads to tragedies like this," he added.
People at the event lit candles and held up signs with messages reading "stand up to racism" and "migrants and refugees welcome here."
"We're holding the vigil to stand in solidarity with those affected," Julie Sherry said.
