0:49Now PlayingMexico’s Foreign Secretary Marcelo Ebrard has visited the site of an attack on November 4 in the state of Sonora that left nine members of an American Mormon family dead.
Members of the LeBaron family were traveling in three vehicles when they were attacked, several family members said. Footage shared online by family members after the incident showed the remains of a burned-out vehicle.
The LeBarons are part of a Mormon community that settled in northern Mexico decades ago.
Ebrard said authorities had instructions from President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador to “help and act so that justice is done,” Aristegui Noticias reported.
In a statement posted on Facebook, the Agency for Criminal Investigation for the state of Sonora said a suspect was arrested in the town of Agua Prieta, near the border with Douglas, Arizona.
