2:43Now PlayingLarge demonstrations continued across Bolivia on Thursday, with protesters violently attacking a mayor in the small town of Vinto.
Mayor Patricia Arce Guzmán was covered in red paint before angry demonstrators surrounded her and cut her hair, saying they were angry over three recent deaths. The town hall was also set on fire.
The attack in the department of Cochabamba comes amid a new round of violence between supporters and foes of President Evo Morales following a disputed presidential election on 20 October.
Limbert Guzmán, a 20-year-old student, died late on Wednesday in a clinic in the city of Cochabamba, and two others were fatally shot last week during unrest in Santa Cruz province, an opposition bastion.
Morales, who has accused the opposition of trying to stage a coup, expressed his condolences on Twitter and said Guzmán had been a victim of violence promoted by political groups that encourage racial hate.
On Thursday, the United Nations urged Bolivia's government and opposition to restore "dialogue and peace" and called on authorities to investigate the deaths.
A delegation from the Organization of American States is in Bolivia carrying out an audit of the election. The results are expected next week.
