as posted by the channelThe last patients left New York City's Jacob K. Javits Convention center on Friday after a total of 1,095 patients were treated at the convention center as the coronavirus ravaged the city during the month of April.
The last eight patients left Friday afternoon according to officials.
They were given a rousing sendoff from soldiers, medical personnel and other COVID-19 responders in New York.
Military personnel including the Army Corps of Engineers turned the massive, glass-walled facility on the Hudson River into a field hospital as part of an effort to relieve the strain on the city's hospital system posed by the unprecedented coronavirus outbreak.
For most people, the coronavirus causes mild or moderate symptoms, such as fever and cough, that clear up in two to three weeks.
But it can cause more severe illness, including pneumonia, and death for some people, especially older adults and people with existing health problems.
