1:25Now PlayingMinnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison wouldn't say whether he supports dismantling the police department, as a majority of Minneapolis City Council members have called for.
But he added that those people who are calling for that are making a valid case for "serious transformation."
When asked whether he thought the relationship with the police and community could improve in Minneapolis and nationally, Ellison said he thinks it could.
"I think that there's going to have to be some recognition on behalf of people who conduct law enforcement that they need to do some changing. I mean, historically, it's been more historically, if you protested ... the establishment would say you were a radical troublemaker," Ellison said. "Now that so many people have seen this stuff, it's like, well, wait a minute, maybe there's a problem, maybe there's a systematic problem. Maybe we need to have some change here."
He also said they were investigating reports that Chauvin and Floyd knew each other from when they worked security at a nightclub together.
The report also said they knew each other fairly well and Chauvin had a problem with Floyd.
"I can tell you that we are investigating all leads," he said. "This is important information. We consider it important. We're looking into it."
