Mary Schroeder, CEO of Hong Kong-based Happy Cow, says yes, as it has lower sugar and no cholesterol. It’s also dairy-free so it doesn’t have the usual food allergens, she adds.
What’s in it? Coconut milk or almond milk are common substitutes.
“Right now there is a really strong need to have some food that has a good balance of better for your body but also tastes really good,” says Schroeder.
What are the most popular flavors?
“Right now it’s really salted caramel, mint chocolate chip and pure coconut for the adults. And then for kids it’s really going to be mango and strawberry and chocolate.”
There’s also durian flavor for those who enjoy the “king of fruit” known for its pungent smell.
The global market in non-dairy ice cream is expected to reach $1 billion by 2024, according to Global Market Insights.
Younger people looking to eat better for a healthy lifestyle are driving the growth, says Schroeder.
