Sep 9, 20201:08White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany dismissed the suggestion that President Donald Trump should comply with local guidelines when it comes to holding campaign rallies.
"We believe that if people want to show up and express their political views, that's their choice to do so," said McEnany Wednesday.
"At the end of the day, if you want to join a peaceful protest, you can do so... and there's no there's no reason, just like the protests we've seen in the streets, you can't show up and express your political view at a rally."
Trump aides and allies suggest the president sees his rallies as a manifestation of the reopening he’s preaching and that he believes is vital to the economic recovery and what voters want.
In a dig at those who warn against reopening too quickly,
Trump suggested that these states would suddenly reopen the day after the election, when opponents advocating caution can no longer hurt his reelection.
McEnany also answered questions on AstraZeneca’s suspension of its coronavirus vaccine study and what it means for the President's hope for a vaccine before the end of the year.
"Our timing is not about the election, is about saving lives," said McEnany.
"By the end of the year has always been our goal. But, of course, on a safe and effective, effective vaccine, we will take it as quickly as we can get it."
And McEnany spoke about the president's actions when it comes to the people of Belarus.
