2:22Now PlayingPresident Donald Trump said America had the greatest economy in history until the "China plague" hit the States, and that a vaccine for the coronavirus is being developed in record time at his Nevada campaign speech.
"We were doing so great. And then we got hit with the plague, the China plague," Trump said in Minden on Saturday night.
Trump is defying local authorities by holding public events Saturday and Sunday after officials blocked his initial plans for rallies in Reno and Las Vegas because they would have violated COVID-19 health guidelines.
He claimed the media have criticised the rapidity of the production of an inoculation, "because they don't want it to happen before the election."
"Having a vaccine is good, but we're rounding the turn regardless. We're rounding the turn," Trump said.
According to the Johns Hopkins University, the US has reported 6,485,214 cases of the virus and 193,693 deaths - the highest reported figures in the world.
