3:29Now PlayingThe Louisville Metro Police Department livestreamed the response to the Breonna Taylor protests on September 23. Demonstrators were held after a grand jury announced one of three officers would be charged in the March fatal shooting of Taylor.
“Multiple” officers were reportedly shot during the demonstrations, according to reports, with police setting up a staging area in the city.
In this video from the department, popping sounds can be heard at the start, although Storyful could not independently verify if the sounds were connected to the alleged shooting.
In earlier footage, police can be seen in riot gear and arrests were reported.
The Courier-Journal reported protests continued on Wednesday, nearly up to the imposed curfew. Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer put a 72-hour curfew in place for Louisville, set for 9 pm to 6.30 am.
Former Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD) Officer Brett Hankison was charged with three counts of wanton endangerment in the first degree. Hankison’s bond was set at $15,000. Hankison was fired from the police force on June 23 for his role in the shooting death of Taylor.
Sgt Jonathan Mattingly and detective Myles Cosgrove, the other two officers who fired their weapons while trying to serve a search warrant on Taylor’s apartment in the early hours of March 13, were not charged.
