2:01Now PlayingA state lawmaker who spent a night in a jail holding cell after her arrest during protests demanding justice for Breonna Taylor says she'll redouble her push for criminal justice reforms in Kentucky.
Kentucky state Rep. Attica Scott was arrested and charged Thursday evening with first-degree rioting, a felony, and two misdemeanor counts — unlawful assembly and failure to disperse.
The Black lawmaker on Friday called the charges "ludicrous" and said she and others arrested were "traumatized" by the actions of Louisville police.
"Right now I'm very disgusted and angry that LMPD (Louisville Metro Police Department) would levy these false charges against me," Scott told reporters.
Last month, the Louisville Democrat unveiled legislation that would ban the use of no-knock search warrants in Kentucky. The bill also would require drug and alcohol testing of officers involved in shootings and require body cameras be worn when executing search warrants.
The measure would be called Breonna's Law in honor of Breonna Taylor.
In the wake of the decision not to prosecute Kentucky police officers for killing Taylor, authorities and activists alike wrestled Thursday with the question of what comes next amid continued demands for justice in the Black woman's death.
Protesters vowed to stay in the streets until someone is charged with Taylor's killing. The grand jury indicted one officer for wanton endangerment who authorities say shot into a neighboring apartment but did not strike anyone. He has been fired.
