Trump made the comments at a campaign rally in Iowa, as he looked to shore up support from constituencies he hoped to have in the bag.
Speaking to a crowd in Des Moines, Trump praised Barrett's intellect and urged her not to run for office against him.
"I don't mind running against Sleepy Joe, but I wouldn't want to run against her right now," Trump said. "She has to promise, please promise me, Amy, you'll never run.
Trump also addressed his teenage son Barron's COVID infection, saying cavalierly, “He had it for such a short period of time, I don’t even think he knew that he had it.”
The president was using his son to underscore his frequent argument that kids have less serious cases of the coronavirus and should be back in school.
“Barron is just fine,” Trump added, using his son's quick recovery as part of his pitch to reopen schools. "It happens. People have it and it goes. Get the kids back to school. We’ve got to get the kids back to school.”
Earlier in the day Wednesday, First Lady Melania Trump reveled that Barrons had tested positive for the coronavirus not long after his parents, but had no symptoms.
