0:58Now PlayingTropical Storm Eta restrengthened to a Category 1 hurricane over the Gulf of Mexico and was forecast to hit the west coast of Florida near Tampa late Wednesday, November 11.
The National Hurricane Center in Miami issued a hurricane watch for counties on the west coast of Florida.
Reports warned of a “life-threatening storm surge” and tropical storm-force winds by late Wednesday. Eta was reportedly packing 75 mph winds as of 8 am.
This footage by meteorologist William Churchill shows a strong Gulf surf flooding the Edward B Knight Pier in Key West on Wednesday morning. He said nearby Atlantic Boulevard was also flooded. The Florida Keys were placed under a wind advisory and a coastal flood statement had been issued, the National Weather Service said.
Eta caused flooding in Miami-Dade and Broward counties on Monday before moving out over warm waters in the Gulf of Mexico. Eta was about 130 miles west-southwest of Fort Myers early Wednesday and was moving at 15 mph, according to the NHC.
