0:59Now PlayingUK Prime Minister Boris Johnson said Wednesday it will take months before all of the most vulnerable people in the country will be vaccinated against COVID-19, as the National Health Service lays out its immunisation strategy.
The go-ahead for the vaccine developed by Pfizer and BioNTech comes on the day Britain's latest lockdown ended, moving regions into a tier-system of restrictions.
In a nationally-televised statement, Johnson urged the public to follow the rules of the tiers until nationwide vaccination is complete.
"These steps are for now the surest way to protect yourselves and those you love," he said after he warned not to believe the struggle is over.
The head of the National Health Service said the process of immunising vulnerable groups would last until March or April.
The rest of the population will not likely see a vaccine until spring.
